Clark named among Best Places to Work in Maine in 2014

Clark Insurance has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for 2014 according to the Maine State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). According to the organization’s news release, employers attaining the recognition “have established and consistently fostered outstanding workplace environments.”

Ken Ross, president of Clark Insurance said, “We are so pleased to see that our employee-owned company has been judged so positively. Though we are among the largest independent insurance agencies in Northern New England, we strive to know and support one another and foster a team approach to problem solving.” Ross noted that the agency’s Guiding Principles highlight individual qualities such as ethical behavior, professionalism, respect and caring attitudes. “It’s important that we treat one another as we would wish to be treated. It creates a culture that is highly customer focused. We also believe in creating opportunities for personal and professional growth, financial security and fun,” said Ross. “And, believe me, we do have fun .”

Examples of employee activities include chili & chowder, Halloween costume and Christmas cubicle decorating contests, monthly lunch & learn sessions and an annual company outing for employees. The agency also supports numerous non-profit agencies with volunteer hours and fundraising through jeans-days and silent auctions.

The outside review of employer practices included a lengthy questionnaire regarding employee education, recognition, compensation, career development and engagement. In addition, employees were asked to anonymously evaluate their employer’s practices to ensure consistency with the working environment as well as stated policies and procedures.

Clark Insurance will join 69 other Maine employers at a recognition event later this year.
