New Maine Law Imposes New Requirements for Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors

A new law takes effect on October 31, 2009 in the State of Maine.  "An Act to Protect Maine Residents from Home Fires and Carbon Monoxide" was passed recently in an effort to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisonings.  As a result of this new law:
  • Stricter smoke detector requirements now apply to homeowners and tenants
  • Carbon monoxide detectors are now required in homes and apartments
